The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has impacted every industry and this includes our non-emergency transport service. We know that this virus is particularly dangerous to elderly individuals and those who have chronic medical conditions.
Given that this includes many of the people who use our services on a regular basis, we are doing everything we can to keep our patients and their families safe from harm.
To that end, we are taking several COVID-19 specific precautions to keep you and your family safe during this difficult time.
Knowledge Is Power
One of the most important ways that people can stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic is to stay up to date on the latest information. This virus is spread mainly from person to person. It is more likely for someone to catch this virus from someone else if they are within six feet of that person. The virus usually spreads via respiratory droplets when someone talks, sneezes, or coughs. Furthermore, this virus can even be spread by people who might not be showing any symptoms. These individuals might not even know that they have the virus. Therefore, many of the precautions that we take have been designed to prevent the spread of this virus.
Washing Hands
One of the main precautions that we are taking involves handwashing. We wash our hands before, during, and after every trip. We prefer to use hot soap and water, washing our hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds. We also pay close attention to wash our hands after blowing our noses, coughing, sneezing, and in between trips.
On the other hand, we also know that hot water and soap is not always available, particularly while we are in motion. That is why we always have hand sanitizer on-hand. The sanitizer we use always contains at least 60 percent alcohol to ensure that we kill any viral particles that might be present. We focus on areas where germs like to hide including underneath fingernails, in the creases, and on the backs of our hands.
Protective Equipment
In addition to handwashing, we also wear protective equipment during every trip. With the latest information that COVID-19 can be spread simply by exhaling, our professionals always don gloves and N95 respirator masks. We do this to prevent the spread as much as possible. Of course, we also change gloves between every trip to keep our patients safe from harm. We keep up with the latest guidelines from the CDC.
Cleaning the Vehicles
We also clean the vehicles thoroughly as recommended by industry and healthcare officials. We understand that we have many patients that rely on our services to get them to and from their appointments. While we clean the entire vehicle from top to bottom, we focus particularly on the major touchpoints of the vehicle. These are areas of the vehicle where patients might come into physical contact with the transport system. We do everything we can to keep our patients safe.
